NEW CITIZEN
Bestowed with Dutch Pride,
It was difficult for you to decide.
For years you experienced ambivalence,
In deciding where to pledge your allegiance.
But after years of contemplation,
You mailed in your application.
Which was accepted,
Sooner than expected.
And I knew,
That you would not fail the interview.
You were always up to date,
On American affairs and its fate.
I was happy when I heard,
That you’d be sworn in as an American Citizen on May the 23.
Your friends are here tonight to toast and cheer very loud,
Because, you have joined the American crowd.
Congratulations my friend,
For making the right decision, in the end.
