MADEIRA, PORTUGAL
Reason to cheer…
Two years ago this month I was also here.
At that time I had no notion …
To be back so soon…on my favorite Island in the Atlantic Ocean.
Dramatic landscapes of high volcanic bluffs and mountain peaks…
Colored with emerald greens and exotic flower streaks.
A town center shaded under a canapé of flowering jacaranda trees
Were people have coffee and cake or stroll with ease .
Homes that are well maintained with the same red color roof tops
No big chain…but small independent shops
Vineyards drenched in sunshine…
To create the famous Madeira wine .
Madeira wine was a favorite of George Washington in the USA
It was use to toast on the day…
When the powers were in attendance…
To sign the declarations of Independence !
Everyone comes out to cheer…
For the “worlds largest fireworks” at the start of a new year.
Locals are called Madeirans and it is Portuguese they all speak
The majority is Roman Catholic, well dressed and in church each week.
At the end of this lovely day we walked fast to fetch
The ship for the next six day stretch
Bermuda will be the next port across the Atlantic Ocean
Hoping to sail without to much motion.
