This dead Desert City is a wonder to see.

Petra built as the Capital Kingdom of the Nabataeans 2000 years ago …
Annexed to the Roman Empire in 105 AD historians now know.

Lost in the 13th Century and never again unraveled…
Until rediscovered in 1812 by a Swiss named Burkhardt who traveled.

A Unesco world heritage site since 2005…
Unbelievable how it has survived.

Considered one of the seven world wonders in 2007…
This sight… imaginable only in heaven.

I was in this country in 2012, But now there is deflated optimism…
As there is less tourism.

Tourist are no longer brave…
Because surrounding countries are not safe.

Many buildings are abandoned and unemployment is rising…
Neighboring Syrians come to work for lower wages which is not surprising.

Their life is better because labor here is more in demand
Than in their own land.

I just hope that many more people could have the guarantee…
And chance to see…

This marvelous ancient treasure…
Which gave me unimaginable viewing pleasure.
