INTERPRETATION
My Mother-tongue was Dutch
Which I spoke for long, well and much.
We grew up knowing…hat outside our border…
To understand us …no one would bother.
We had never heard…
That they would try to understand our spoken word.
We accepted the responsibility
To have the ability
To communicate outside our boundaries
And in foreign countries.
When we emigrated far away
to the USA
It would have been a bit much
To expect they would understand Dutch.
I wished USA Authorities would use common sense
And not pay for interpreters expense.
And not allow the English language to disappear
By foreigners that are allowed to live here
To maintain a society with harmony
Being able to communicate is a necessity
All emigrants should not neglect
To speak English out of respect
If an American moved to your homeland
Speaking your language the authorities would demand
In this land of opportunity
No one should get immunity
This country does not need
People that refuse to speak, write or read.
And if due to this handicap a living they cannot earn
To their homeland…they should be requested to return
