DAY 74 – MALTA
A tiny Island not wide or long…
Less then half a million people, but spiritually strong.
A turbulent history with many occupiers before…
But becoming an Independent Republic in 1964
It is said that without a doubt…
Only the St. John’s Knights, brought more than they took out.
A unique sight to see…
Built on a fortified wall arising out of the sea
We docked in the Capital Valletta a mile from the City.
Which looks quaint and pretty.
Reaching the square in town was by walking a steep slope
On this first stop in Europe
A Mediterranean climate, but currently 57 degrees
Coming from California feeling ready to freeze.
We visited the old town Vittoriosa…
And viewed the Dome on the square in Mosta.
We had a peaceful and picturesque walk…
In the old fishing village Marsaxlokk.
We viewed traditional Mdina glassware…
Being handled with care
We stopped in Villa Arrigosa for a short break…
And enjoyed tea with homemade sandwiches and cake.
We realized this day had been a success …
As we sailed away from this magnificent fortress.
