I paid $200.00 for a dinner,
Because a friend was a winner…

She received a Humanitarian award at this event
For all the hours she had spent…

On behalf of equality and justice for all
She gained another prestigious plaque for her wall.

She is a community volunteer at heart
And always works very hard

Without pause
To make a difference for a nonprofit cause.

In my life
I have not seen many with such an unpaid drive.

It was -room filled with people of public recognition
Including many of the 200 who previously received this award for their ambition

I wonder how many tickets they had to sell
To cover this evenings cost in this elegant hotel

But this is the volunteers only recognition
For their donated time and ambition.

Many organizations depend on volunteers in this nation
Let’s hope they can find them in the next generation.
