Time…waiting for guest…
Was always at its best.
I planned this extra time
For a leisurely…last check that everything was fine.
I was always well prepared
And showed evidence I cared.
The silver was polished…The crystal sparkling
The dog instructed not to be barking.
Flowers in a vase
On the tablecloth of lace.
Then I sit
With the candles lit
And glance for one more look
Towards every corner and nook.
The odor of a feast
Music selected for guest to be pleased.
And I like what I see…
Perfect hostess me.
I entertained as a pro
Did not like things to be “so so”
I did not expect or depend…
On a compliment.
I did it to satisfy my standards and style
And was always ready to open the door with a smile.
I wanted my guest…
To experience the best.
But now in my later years…
I have shifted gears.
Since I live alone
I prefer entertaining guest outside my home.
