I met her in my writing class in January 2012 one day
She looked at me as she tried to say…

I know you from the past
While for my name she asked.

She had not seen me since 1992
But when she saw me she knew…

I was John Temmink’s wife
At the end of his life.

She remembers she had been nervous
When she and her husband had attended his funeral service.

Because…
She mostly remembered how young he was.

It had been difficult for her husband to say farewell
Because he had had know him so well.

He had shed a few tears
For this business acquaintance of many years.

She remembered the speeches about him growing up during WWII
Which her husband never knew.

This woman appeared very kind
As the memories of that day floated in my mind.

My beloved John…
One day… So unexpected…..gone.

It was meant to be…
That today we would see…

Each other and reconnect
And be able to talk and reflect,

On days gone by… and still here.
I am glad Katie became my friend and lives very near.
