WEST COAST DRIVING TRIP
This past week in September…
I will always remember.
This spectacular drive along the coast…
Unseen by most.
The FIRST day it was a very long drive…
From Long Beach to Red Bluff on I-5
Day TWO we drove via Hwy 97 to Klamath Falls and on the way…
We enjoyed touring Shasta Caverns today.
Day THIRD day Hwy. 97 to Annie Falls then on to Crater Lake
But the drive was not a piece of cake…
Wet snow and limited visibility
But a feeling of winter tranquility
Soon the fog rolled in as thick as can be
The lake we were never able to see
On to lake Pauline and lava Butte Park
We’re evolution of million years left its mark
The Fourth Hwy 26 to John Day Fossil Beds and it was fascinating to view
The results of the diggings that are more then a few
We were at awe about the painted hills that look like man made
Vivid colors that never fade
And there…below the stark blue sky… stood…
Pure white snow topped… Mount Hood
Memories flooded my mind
When at the Timberline Lodge we dined
Because 49 years ago
I stayed here with John in the snow
The FIFTH day we saw spectacular waterfalls including Horsetail
And we hiked to observe Bridal Vail
In Rooster Rock State Park we had views of Mount Rainier-Hood –Jefferson and Adams and drove
Via Devils Punch Bowl to Newport
And stayed overnight in a nice resort
The SIXTH day we viewed the Sea lions Cave Arch rock and National Bridge
On Hwy 1 while standing on a narrow ridge
The SEVENTH day From Scotia via Hwy 1 to San Francisco
We’re everyone seemed to be on the go!
It took two hours to get across the city
Having to endure this was a pity
The traffic jam
Caused us to get home at 2 am
Tired but thankful for having had another peek
Of the West Coast with Daphne and Ashley this week.
