Today
it is 48 years ago we came to the USA
We arrived from Amsterdam in New York by plane
Then traveled on to Los Angeles by train
It was a new sight
For three days corn fields left and right
And almost I let out a yell
When on the train they served us corn as well.
But soon did we envision
That coming here was a terrific decision
We certainly had not expected
So soon to feel connected
This country is as good as it gets
And we never had any regrets
With opportunities galore
A reason to return existed no more
This land has been good to my family and me
We live here very well and free
I want to be buried here
With my loved ones near
I thank God we arrived here 48 years ago today
And decided then to stay.
