Remembering Dad

REMEMBERING JOHN’S 80TH BIRTHDAY

John, August 22, you would have turned 80 on this day.
But you died early after a life of success, love, and play.

You shocked us, all in tears,
When you died unexpectedly at the age of 55 years.

I met you in nursing school in 1961.
Unimaginable after only sharing 31 years, you were gone.

Those years could not have been better –
Living happily together in California weather.

A successful builder,
No problem switching to the dollar from the Dutch guilder,

We traveled worldwide –
Life with you was a an exciting ride.

Our two daughters had the best education
And you taught them the value of a timely vacation.

I often wonder how you would have aged,
How you would have been amazed

About the changes in the last 24 years.
But from above with your eyes and ears…

You keep up to date –
Have no need to speculate…

We know your soul did not disappear…
It is still here.
