LOCKET

In 1973 l bought a piece of jewelry…
As a gift for my Mother from me.
Locket
In it she carried a picture from then on…
Of my Dad…who by then was gone.

Coping with his death for her was very hard…
For comfort she carried his picture close to her heart.

On her deathbed, she gave the locket back to me…
“Because I already see”.

We were happy instead of sad…
When she said “I am seeing Dad”.

We watched her breathing cease,
When in 1981 she died in peace.

In 1992, I added a picture of John
And wore the locket often from then on.

in 2010, I added the second husband of mine
And I now carry their pictures most of the time…

In this tiny treasured little locket,
On a chain, in my purse or pocket.

This heirloom I hope will be around in the next century
Carrying images of departed loved ones in our family.
