COPPER CANYON, MEXICO
After docking today…we had a long way to go…
Ninety minutes by bus from Topolobampo.
In El Fuerte we boarded the “El Chepe” Pacific Railroad train at 8 am
We arrived on time as we had not seen any cars or a traffic jam.
It was a big sensation…
This 10 hour roundtrip to the Posada Baranca station.
This day… a real success
Seeing the Indian tribe Tarahumara, clad in colorful dress
We saw dramatic rock formations from Desert to Alpine over 8000 feet
While we traveled in comfort and were served nice meals to eat.
The train runs through 86 tunnels and over 36 over bridges…
Along steep ridges.
In 1872 the plan to built was put into motion….
And started in 1964 to connect Kansas with the Pacific Ocean
Copper Canyon is deeper and wider then the USA Grand Canyon we heard,
It is said to be one of the most spectacular train rides on earth
At the Mirador hotel perched on the rim of the canyon we arrived a bit late
But enjoyed unsurpassed views with song and dance as we ate.
Had time to soak up the area’s splendor
Of this nature wonder
A dramatic sunset at the end of this day
So glad this adventure…I did not miss today.
