Today was the first time I heard
A weather alert.

A loud noise sounding new,
Came on my phone out of the blue.

A warning about blowing sand
That is approaching to cover this land .

And it was out of the norm
Being alerted about the approaching thunder storm.

It is nice to know what to expect
And being informed this way is perfect.

Maybe soon they will alert about an earthquake
Before we feel the first shake.

It is a safe feeling when you live alone
To get severe weather warnings by phone.

It shows there are people that care,
And they give us time to prepare.

To be safe I no longer need to hear a voice
Just read the message when my phone makes a noise.
