BARCELONA, SPAIN
On this date…
Our ship left out of Barcelona’s harbor gate …
And as we sailed away…
We were thankful for the two day stay…
While we had a last view…
of the Christopher Columbus large statue.
Barcelona, another city that is very unique…
It is here where Catalan and Spanish they speak.
Barcelona the 16th most livable city on earth…
And is the fourth richest city in Europe we heard.
I strolled with Frans in 2006 in the medieval quarter of Barri Gothie
And visited the church La Sagrada Familia from Antoni Gaudi
Construction started in 1882 and the scheduled completion date in 2026 will coincide…
With the date 100 years after Gaudi died.
Barcelona tries to remain…
The largest city in Catalonia… and second in Spain
While all along the local Catalans continue to aim…
Being independent from Spain.
They believe that that will be the only way…
To not have their heritage and language fade away.
Lunch we leisurely drank and ate
On Las Ramblas Promenade
As we watched thousands of people stroll by on this sunny Tuesday
The weather is just about perfect all the time they say
Then again it was time to go
And leave behind this beautiful twin city of San Francisco.
